Herbert Fletcher University in compliance with the provisions of the law num. 109 of April 11, 2003 wishes to inform measures to protect students from Higher Education activated in the United States Armed Forces and the National Guard of Puerto Rico.  These measures are in place to prevent academic and financial penalty for students active in military services.

GENERAL DISPOSITION

  • Herbert Fletcher University will offer the students that are active in the United States Armed Forces or the National Guard of Puerto Rico a refund or credit for the money paid of tuition and other expenses paid by the student which are repayable.
  • The refund or credit will not include the fees that are not refundable.
  • The institution will make the refund, return, or credit in the moment of the academic session when the student becomes active
  • HFU will submit a credit if the student doesn’t indicates his preference in the moment of presenting the evidence that is active.
  • It will be provided the priority to the student to reintegrate according to the availability of courses during the academic session. If the student is a candidate for graduation during the semester of activation it will be given priority over other students for the courses needed.

PROCESS

  • The student must notify the Admissions and Records Office that is a member of the United States Armed Forces or the National Guard of Puerto Rico during the first (15) calendar days of every session.  
  • If the student becomes active by the United States Armed Forces or the National Guard of Puerto Rico, has to present original evidence of activation order to the Admission and Record Office. Has to present them at least (15) days prior to the activation or as soon as possible.
  • When giving the evidence of activation the student has to decide whether would prefer a refund or credit for the money paid at the rate of time in the semester in which the student has being activated.
  • When the military service has finished, it will be able to continue the studies by completing an application of re-admission without having to go through the process of the application fee.

REGISTRY OFFICE

  • The Registry Office will proceed to cancel a student’s registration putting the WM (Military Withdrawal) in the school transcript along with the date the student presented the activation.
  • After acquiring WM in the transcript, it will be informed to the Finance Office about the courses canceled because of the activation on the United States Armed Forces or the National Guard of Puerto Rico for the corresponding adjustments.

The Registry Office will ensure priority on the courses that the student was enrolled in the moment of the activation, upon availability.
